Our Story - The House That Built Me

Our Story: The House That Built Me

I’ve always been drawn to the art of creating.  When I was 19, after years of hard work as a mason laborer, I managed to save enough to bid on a weathered old farmhouse from the 1880s. It was more than just a fixer upper. It was the kind of place most people walked away from. I was the only one who didn’t. Friends and neighbors thought I was crazy, but where they saw crumbling walls, I saw a chance to learn, to prove myself, and to build a home that honored its history.

During the day, I laid block and mixed mortar. At night and on weekends, I focused all my energy on that house. I restored it, rebuilt it, and reimagined every corner. It was tough work, but I loved every minute. The dust, the sweat, and the satisfaction of seeing progress kept me going. That experience sparked something in me. I realized this wasn’t just a side project. It was the beginning of something bigger. Designing and building felt like the path I was meant to follow.

Work, Dirt, and Laughter

As our family grew, so did the joy of building together. From the time they were little, my daughters were right there beside me. They planted grass, laid stone, and got their hands dirty.  Together, we built a treehouse, tackled weekend projects, and slowly brought new life to a structure that had been left behind.

With every swing of the hammer and every stone we set, we were not just fixing up a house. We were creating memories, building confidence, and sharing a love for making something meaningful.

A Canvas for Life’s Moments

As much as I treasure the memories of transforming our house, it is the life we lived within those walls that means the most to me. That is why I love designing and building homes. A house is never just a structure. It becomes the setting for a lifetime of moments; babies born, birthdays celebrated, holiday traditions passed down, first days of school, and the last days before college. It is a living canvas where life unfolds.

I have loved every part of the journey, from the start of the renovation to the decades of memories that followed. Now, I bring that same energy into every home I help build, so others can create their own story, just like we did with ours.
